SU's Bradley Completes Northwestern School of Police and Staff Command Program

Sandra BradleySALISBURY, MD---¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Police Lt. Sandra Bradley recently completed the Northwestern School of Police and Staff Command’s 10-week program.

Held over five months at Penn State University, the course helps prepare law enforcement managers for senior positions by combining academic principles with practical applications.

“For all attendees, this course provided a wealth of information which increased our knowledge and skills, professional and personal introspection into our strengths and weaknesses, and ways to enhance our respective agencies in our current positions,” said Bradley.

Under the guidance of instructors from law enforcement professionals who serve as adjunct instructors for the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety in Evanston, IL, participants were required to research and complete a staff study on a relevant issue within their organizations. Bradley’s proposal was the development of a formal training program in the Compstat model of policing to reduce crime and other issues which may affect the quality of life on campus.

Areas of focus in the course included leadership and management, organizational behavior, decision making, problem solving, project management, resource allocation, human resources and employee relations, budgeting and grant writing, and policies and procedures. Instructors set a goal of helping participants better provide efficient and effective services, analyze their organizations and develop accountability systems.

“Congratulations to Lt. Bradley for her hard work in completing this program and to Interim Vice President of Administration and Finance Marvin Pyles for granting the opportunity, which should yield great dividends for the University and the police department,” said SU Police Chief Edwin Lashley.
