SALISBURY, MD---¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) hosts the virtual lecture series “Democracy Across Disciplines: Politics and Elections” 6-7:15 p.m. Mondays beginning August 31.

In a presidential election year, the series features guest speakers each week discussing different aspects of the democratic process and election specifics.

Speakers include:

• September 7 - Dr. Adam Hoffman (Political Science): “The Power and Potential of the Youth Vote in National Elections”

• September 21 - Dr. David Burns (Communication): “Swimming in the Press Pool: The Journalist’s Role in the Election Process”

• October 5 - Dr. Brittany Foutz (Bosserman Center for Conflict Resolution): “United Nations: The Right to Political Participation in International Law and Post Conflict Elections”
• October 12 - Dr. Robert Barber (Mathematics and Computer Science): “Polling: A Necessary Evil”
• October 19 - Dr. Leonard Arvi (Economics and Finance): “Economics of 2020 U.S. Presidential Election”
• October 26 - Dr. Shannon O’Sullivan (Communication): “Rhetorical Realness and Electability: Exploring Perceptions of Political Authenticity”
• November 2 - Political Science Department Faculty Panel: “Election Day 2020: Reflections on the Campaigns and Predictions for Tomorrow”
• November 9 - Political Science Department Faculty Panel: “The 2020 Presidential Election: Winners and Losers and What it All Means”
• November 16 - Dr. Jim Burton (Communication): “Hollywood on the Campaign Trail”
• November 23 - Dr. Douglas DeWitt (Education Leadership): “The Historic Role of Education in National Elections and Politics”
• November 30 - Dr. Allessia Owens-King (Social Work): “Promoting Voter Engagement as a Social Work Intervention”
• December 7 - Dr. Catherine Jackson (Interdisciplinary Studies): “Elections and Voting from an Interdisciplinary Viewpoint: Integrating Perspectives”

Community members may attend live sessions for free by emailing PACE@salisbury.edu with full name and email address to gain access, or take the class for credit as a non-degree seeking student.

All of SU’s public events are held virtually this semester. Campus buildings remain closed to the public except by invitation.
