In addition, two tenured Faculty members shall be elected as alternates, each of whom shall participate and vote only if replacing a recused, voting member of the committee or filling a vacancy. Library Faculty are precluded from membership on this committee as they have a separate, parallel committee to determine promotion and tenure. Members are required to recuse themselves from discussion and voting upon candidates who share the same immediate supervisor. Immediate supervisors of Faculty are precluded from membership. Additionally, Faculty members serving on this committee shall not apply for promotion while serving on the committee. Also, no faculty member shall serve on this committee and the Faculty Welfare Committee simultaneously. The ad hoc committee shall create a report that includes all relevant information provided by the Provost, a prioritized list of recommendations on how to address concerns related to pay and benefits including, but not limited to, compensation for Summer, Winter, and overload courses; compensation for Chairs and Program Directors; and retirement eligibility for FTNTT faculty, a justification of the order of priority, and a recommendation on how to ensure these issues are addressed in a timely and fiscally responsible manner. In writing the report, the ad hoc committee shall seek input from all interested parties, in particular FTNTT faculty. The ad hoc committee shall provide a final report to the Faculty Senate President no later than March 18, 2025. If the final report is not submitted during the Fall 2024 Semester, then an initial report detailing progress and information gathered shall be submitted to the Faculty Senate President by December 3, 2024.

The Ad Hoc Committee on Student Evaluations of Faculty Teaching shall consider the role of student evaluations in faculty evaluations and in promotion and tenure decisions at SU. The committee shall look at the literature on best practices for student evaluations of faculty teaching and on the suitability and equity of using student evaluations as an indicator of teaching quality. The committee shall also reach out to all SU faculty for feedback on the matter. The committee shall create a report that summarizes its findings and provides a concrete recommendation for how (or if) student evaluations should be used in faculty evaluations and in promotion and tenure decisions at SU; the report shall include a draft of any proposed changes to existing policies. The report shall be presented to the Faculty Senate no later than the first Faculty Senate meeting in Spring 2024 and submitted to the Faculty Senate President at least one week in advance of said meeting.

The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Faculty Handbook, Chapter 8, Article I, Section 2:  The Graduate Council shall consist of the graduate dean, vice president of enrollment management, the registrar or their designees, and the liaison from the Faculty Senate (all ex officio and nonvoting); the program director from each graduate program (all ex officio and voting); one elected graduate faculty representative from each unit (voting); and one graduate student (voting) appointed by the university provost or his/her designee.

a. Unit representatives are Graduate Faculty members who are not program directors. Separate elections within each unit, as needed, will be conducted by the Faculty Senate during the spring semester.

b. Terms of unit representatives shall be two years and staggered. Terms begin July 1 and end June 30. If additional units are established, initial terms will be one or two years depending on which best balances the number of representatives elected each year.
