Campus Initiatives

Water Bottle Refill Stations – In 2024, a student led, Green Fund project, identified all locations on campus that still need water bottle refill station retrofits. The Green Fund Committee approved the purchase of 38 water bottle refill stations. SU is in the process of replacing all existing standalone drinking fountains with water bottle refill stations.

Office Mini-Trashcan Program

Piloted in Fulton Hall during the Fall 2023 semester, the Office Mini-Trashcan Program has now expanded to every major Academic and Administrative building across campus. The Recycling Program conducted pre- and post-waste audits in these buildings. The waste audits revealed that SU has increased our recycling rate, by 25% in our office settings with this program.

Book Store Bubble Wrap Donation Station – In a partnership with the campus Post Office and Book Store, SU introduced the Book Store Bubble Wrap Donation Station in 2024. Students receiving packages in the mail can choose to donate all un-popped bubble wrap to the Book Store. This supports single-use plastic reuse. Giving donated bubble wrap a second use before leaving the campus. The Book Store uses the donated bubble wrap when shipping online orders to customers.

SU Graduation Gowns – SU Graduation Gowns sold at the Book Store are made of 100% recycled plastics.

Food For The Flock - Started in Fall 2018, Food for the Flock aims to decrease food insecurity among college students. Specifically, Food for the Flock provides non-perishable food, cosmetic, cleaning, and limited dairy products to ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ students in need.

Maryland Green Purchasing Practices – ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ complies with Maryland Department of General Services’ .

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ has adopted a policy to procure Energy Star certified products in all areas for which such products exist and the purchase is financially possible and practical.

All copier paper is 30-50% post-consumer recycled paper.
