Science Nights @ SU Concludes March 29

Science Nights @ SUSALISBURY, MD---During ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥’s free Science Nights @ SU program, high school students explore various fields with experts who discuss current research, career options and more.  The last session of the 2011-12 series is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Henson Science Hall Room 243.  Featuring chemistry, it is led by Mindy Howard of SU’s Chemistry Department.

“We move through the world surrounded by polymers — the “mega molecules” of chemistry,” Howard said. “Polymers are useful because their properties are determined by how they are made. They can be bouncy, stretchy, sticky, moldable, breakable, hard, soft or just plain fun!”

Following a general introduction to polymers, students will explore how toys like Silly Putty and Slime are made and then create their own polymers.

The session is open to all high school students from the local region and beyond, especially those considering careers in the growing fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
