SU's Small Keynotes Inaugural Maryland Emancipation Day Celebration
SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Clara Small, retired ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ professor of history, recently keynoted the inaugural Maryland Emancipation Day celebration.
Hosted by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Montgomery Parks Division in Wheaton, MD, the three-day event commemorated the day Maryland’s constitution abolished slavery in the state on November 1, 1864.
Small was invited to keynote the event as a member of the Maryland Commission on African-American History and Culture. She also serves on the Governor’s Commission to Study the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland. Well known for her talks on African-American and women’s history, she earned the African-American Tourism Council of Maryland’s 2011 Harriet Ross Tubman Lifetime Achievement Award.
