SU and UMES Host Education Job Fair March 8
SALISBURY, MD---¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and University of Maryland Eastern Shore are teaming up for teachers through a joint education job fair Thursday, March 8. The Teacher Recruitment Day Consortium Fair is 2 – 5 p.m. in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the UMES campus.
Sponsored by Career Services at SU and UMES, the event is designed to easily put students in contact with potential employers. “It just made sense to do this event,” said Dr. Rebecca Emery, SU Career Services director. “By sharing ideas and combing our resources we were able to create a great opportunity for both sets of students.”
More than 35 school districts will be represented at the job fair from states including Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, West Virginia and Texas. Several alternative employers including the Kennedy Krieger Institute will also attend. Emery attributes the number of employers and the diversity of their locations to the fact that it is a joint event.
“School districts have limited funds and time, so if they get two for the price of one that’s great,” she said. “Over the years our fairs have been just weeks apart, so from the employer’s perspective this makes the most sense. We bring to the table a lot more education students, while they bring students in specialty areas, like special education.”
While Career Services at the two schools have worked together before, this is the first time for collaborating on an event. SU and UMES plan to alternate hosting what they want to make an annual recruitment fair.
Two extra shuttle buses will provide transportation from SU to the campus in Princess Anne at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. for the event. Students should dress professionally, bring copies of resumes and be prepared to discuss qualification and interests, Emery said. It is the last of four job fairs sponsored by SU Career Services this semester.
Prior to the recruitment fair, individual interviews with districts will be held 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Student Services Center Ballroom at UMES. Students may sign up for the interviews via the SU Career Services eRecruiting Web site at .
