SSO Opens 25th Season With Annual Children's Concert Saturday, October 23
SALISBURY, MD---Move over, Aesop. Frederick has some fables of his own to share.
The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Symphony Orchestra at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ features selections from the book Frederick’s Fables by Leo Lionni during its annual Children’s Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 23, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
Conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, the concert opens the SSO’s 2010-2011 season, which marks its 25th year.
During the performance, Dr. Jacki Chooi-Theng Lew of SU’s Department of Music narrates two stories from the book: "Frederick" tells the tale of an artistic, creative mouse whose talents are thought of as useless—until his poetry helps others find joy during a dreary winter. "Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse" is a “grass isn’t always greener on the other side” parable that compares the life of a mouse to his toy counterpart.
Sponsored by Dr. James M. Crouse, D.D.S., P.A., the concert also features the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Youth Orchestra performing pieces including Star Trek Through the Years, and Leroy Anderson’s The Waltzing Cat and Bugler’s Holiday.
Available at the door only, tickets are $10 for adults and free for children under 12 accompanied by an adult.
