Retail Smart Start Course Teaches Basics of Business

SALISBURY, MD---"Retail Smart Start" is a course specifically designed for the prospective or new-to-the-business retail owner/manager, though seasoned retailers may gain some new insights as well. The course is sponsored by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥'s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and held on Tuesday, September 21, 1:30-4:30 p.m. on the second floor of The Commons. The course focuses on factors common to success in a retail sales operation including retail positioning, location/traffic access, managing various inventories, mark-up and profit calculations, vendor and employee relations, general and promotional marketing, customer service in a retail environment and more. The presenter is Casey Willson, a 30-year veteran of retailing, education, and business in the Washington, DC, Metro area. The course does not cover the generic issues of starting a business, such as legal entity, licensing, tax registration and setting up books which are covered in the regular "Smart Start Your Business."
