'Money,' 'Forbes' Rank SU Among Nation's Best Values

MoneySALISBURY, MD---Money and Forbes magazines may tout different experts and investment strategies, but they agree on one thing: ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ is one of the better higher education values in the United States.

Money ranked SU second among University System of Maryland campuses, after the flagship University of Maryland College Park.

In Forbes, SU was among the top three System campuses with College Park and the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Money trimmed the nation’s roughly 1,500 four-year colleges down to 665 schools, based on graduation rates.  It then ranked those remaining on factors “reflecting educational quality, affordability and alumni earnings” including a “value added” grade that rated each campus on the economic and academic profile of its student body.  SU ranked 223, placing it in the top third of those surveyed (665), and top 15 percent nationally (1,500).

“From student satisfaction and graduation rates,” said Forbes, “to career success and student debt, this ranking counts what matters.”  It placed SU 377 out of 650 which translates into the top 25 percent nationally (1,500). Forbes’ unique rating put ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ higher than such campuses as West Virginia, Texas Tech and Temple universities, among others.

For the 16th consecutive year, The Princeton Review also named SU one of its Best 379 Colleges and Best Northeastern Colleges, “a testament to the dedication and commitment of our students, faculty and staff,” said Dr. Diane Allen, SU provost and senior vice president of academic affairs.

These rankings fall on the heels of two additional accolades SU received earlier this year. In January, The Princeton Review and USA Today named SU among the Top 80 “Best Value Public Colleges” for 2014. In February, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance named SU among its Top 100 “Best Values in Public Colleges” for 2014 and later among its “25 Best College Values Under $30,000 a Year.”
