Corey Harris and the Rasta Blues Experience Performs at SU Friday, October 4
SALISBURY, MD---Acoustic Delta blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Corey Harris has carved his own niche in the music world.
Corey Harris and the Rasta Blues Experience inaugurates ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥’s “[R]Evolutionary Road” American Masterpieces Tour series 7 p.m. Friday, October 4, in Holloway Hall Auditorium. His performance is part of SU’s “Revolution” fall cultural events series.
Harris has recorded renditions of old songs in the blues tradition while creating an original version of the genre by adding influences from reggae, soul, rock and West African music. With one foot in tradition and the other in contemporary experimentation, he pays homage to his roots while moving the music forward in dynamic new directions.
The MacArthur Fellowship “Genius Award” recipient has performed, recorded and toured with many of the top names in music, including B.B. King, Dave Matthews Band, Tracy Chapman, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Ali Farka Touré, Wilco and Natalie Merchant.
His engagement at SU is funded through the American Masterpieces Tour program of the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council.
