Research Interests

My laboratory has had three research focus areas, all related to the immunotoxic effects of metals exposures. In one area, we utilize epidemiological studies to examine the effects of mercury on biomarkers of immune modulation and in vitro studies to probe the mechanisms of these effects. In the second area, we have utilized in vivo mouse models of disease (autoimmune myocarditis, type-2 diabetes, and obesity) to explore the impacts of mercury and arsenic exposure on mechanisms of disease progression and severity. Finally, in the third research area, we are collaborating with a marine science lab here at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ to examine the impacts of environmental toxicants on marine organisms starting with phytoplankton and zooplankton.
