Soaring with Online Learning

Soaring with Online Learning (Soaring) is a professional development program to prepare ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ instructors to design, develop and deliver courses in a hybrid (combination of in-person and virtual instruction), remote (virtual with required synchronous meetings) or online (asynchronous with no required virtual meetings) modality through the campus learning management system, MyClasses.

The program is designed for participants to complete four required courses at their personal pace:

  • Backward Design, Learning Outcomes and Alignment (Self-Paced)
  • Engaging Students (Self-Paced)
  • Universal Design for Learning (Self-Paced)
  • Building Your Course* (Facilitated)

The Backward Design, Engaging Students and UDL courses are available for any individual to enroll in regardless of whether or not they intend to complete the Soaring program.

Participants can apply to the Soaring program throughout the academic year. Once the application is received by ID&D and approved by the unit’s chairperson/director, the following will occur:

  • Enrollment instructions will be provided for the Soaring with Online Learning program (*which includes the Building Your Course offering).
  • Participants will meet with their Instructional Designer liaison to develop a Learning Plan and establish a timeline for completion of the course development.
  • An ID&D Course Review of the developed course will occur 30 days prior to the delivery of the course by an Instructional Designer who is different than your liaison.
  • Upon successful completion of all four courses and the course review, a stipend of $1000 will be provided.
