Writers on the Shore
Each year the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ English Department hosts Writers on the Shore, a series of readings by contemporary writers. Writers on the Shore offers readings by fiction writers, poets, playwrights, memoirists, and a number of other writers. The series includes established voices and fresh new voices who are emerging in the national writing milieu. Find out more about this year's events and featured writers below:
Writers on the Shore: Scarab Launch
¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ presents its spring Writers on the Shore series 8 p.m. select Wednesdays during the semester in the Worcester Room of the Commons.
Upcoming authors and events include:
- February 15 – Robert Long Foreman: Foreman has published a collection of essays, Among Other Things; a collection of short stories, I Am Here to Make Friends; and his first novel, Weird Pig. Published in 2020, the latter won the Nilsen Prize for a first novel. He also has won a Pushcart Prize.
- April 5 – Michael Martone: Martone’s newest books are Plain Air: Sketches from Winesburg, Indiana and The Complete Writings of Art Smith, the Bird Boy of Fort Wayne. He is the author of a dozen other books of short fiction and nonfiction. He also has edited a half dozen anthologies, including Scribner’s Anthology of Contemporary Fiction.
- April 19 – Austin Segrest: Poet and critic Segrest is the author of Door to Remain, winner of the 2021 Vassar Miller Poetry Prize. His poems can be found in POETRY, The Common, Ecotone and The Threepenny Review, among others. His recent essays on poetry have appeared in American Poetry Review and On the Seawall.
- April 26 – Bill Zak: Author of Robert Frost’s Visionary Gift: Mining and Minding the Wonder of Unexpected Supply.
- May 3 – Scarab Launch: Hosted by editor-in-chief Sarah Brockhaus, SU students read selections from the newest issue of the Scarab, SU’s literary magazine. Issues will be available for free.
