Purpose
The NIA Mentoring Initiative is focused on increasing the success and retention of students of color within SUSSW by providing a forum for exploring and sharing their unique college experiences. Furthermore, the initiative provides social support and promotes professional development among participants. The title NIA comes from the 5th principle of Kwanzaa which means Purpose. We focus our collective work on building and developing community and professionalism.

The Chi Eta Chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ promotes high academic achievement within the School of Social Work. We support superior educational and ethical standards among our social work students. Membership is open to both undergraduate and graduate social work students who meet the established scholarship qualifications. Students ranking in the top 35% of their program (BASW or MSW) and having completed 37.5% of the program requirements, including nine social work credits are eligible to apply. Qualifying students will be invited to apply in the fall and spring semesters. Members are expected to attend the induction ceremony and two (2) meetings and/or participate in two (2) activities during the academic year.
